Expanding your comfort zone

Have you ever feel stressed just of thinking that in order to grow, evolve, or achieve a goal you MUST ‘step out of your comfort zone’?

If yes, you are like me!!! Every time I think about those words I start to think the 1,001 excuses why it won’t work. I start pilling excuses and procrastination becomes my best friend. And if you know me, you know that I’m not the kind of person that likes or even wants to accept something like that. It drives me nuts, it drives me crazy. So I started questioning why I was so afraid of it, what was other things I could do to actually grow, evolve and achieve my goals without that intense fear.

The solution I came up with is extremely silly. I can not even believe how silly it is, and it amazes me how easy our brains can be tricked.

THE SOLUTION?!

As I mentioned above, the solution is to trick our brains. The way I manage to do it is by changing some words. Instead of saying that I need to ‘step out of my comfort zone’ I would say something like ‘I need to expand my comfort zone’. That’s it! That’s my trick.

That simple?
Yes!
Really?

Yes, really! This is my line of thinking… when I use the words step-out I feel that outside (the unknown) is terrifying, I might die (not literally).

But when I use the words ‘stretch’, ‘expand’ I feel that I’m growing, that I’m pushing through a limitation to evolve. That by expanding I’m not leaving my zone of comfort, I’m not leaving everything I know, I’m just expanding it, I’m just making my comfort zone bigger. Does it make sense?

So, if you anything like me, try it. Try changing the words to something that resonates with you, something that would allow you to do things that are not necessarily comfortable, and leave a comment below.

I look forward to knowing if you were able to use it or if you have any other strategies that you’d like to share with me.

With Love and Respect,
Laura
